Direct type backlight unit answers LCD TV characters required to have wide vision, high illumination, and high contract ability in large backlight unit. But more lamps used to upgrade brightness in direct type backlight unit raise more heating to be created. And this side effect of heating makes optical thin film to occur warps and wrinkles via thermal stress influence and it leads to poor uniform performance in brightness. Optical thin film mechanical properties are then significant parameters for design. Meanwhile, we are pursuing optimum optics performance in backlight unit with in high illumination, uniform brightness etc.
This thesis is through bulge test method and micro tension and compression testing system on optical films to obtain their Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, and residual stress. Furthermore we put those data into finite element analysis software (ANSYS) to demonstrate that the experiment is dependable. Then, we study temperature effect on the changes of the mechanical properties of diffusers, which used on cell-phone, notebook, and LCD TV products at present, in order to avoid warps and wrinkles phenomenon happened in optical films as much as possible.
