The polymer can be pressurized along one radial direction only, and responds to an axial force on the round plate, creating an axial stretched-strain on the FBG. The measured pressure sensitivity of our proposed the piezometer based on fiber grating is significantly improved compared to that of a bare FBG. The experiment results are in good agreement with theoretical calculations and the linear relationship between the center-wavelength shift of the fiber grating and the applied pressure is confirmed .In the case of keeping the constant size of sensor head, the pezometer based on fiber grating sensitivity can be enhanced by the fiber etching technology. The piezometer based on fiber grating can be extendly applied in the water pressure measurement for obtaining the variation of water level. The piezometer based on fiber grating has the potential to be applied to the measurement of medium pressure, liquid level and depth of water.
