When the surface of the light guide plate is made with micro structures, the light rays are reflected and diffused and the total reflection is destroyed. The light guide plate can then direct the light rays in the desired direction. Currently the optical industry puts a lot of effort in designing and manufacturing high efficiency light guide plate. In this thesis, we analyzed the arrangement and geometry of micro structures of major light guide plate in the market. Commercial CAE software, Speos, was used to simulation results were compared with experiential observations. The analyses were used to help design new micro structure array is ten times that of current products and show very high efficiency.
