Recently, because of the recession of real estate, the architecture business, for instance, is on the alert. In order to survive, it is inevitable for architecture industry in Taiwan to expand toward abroad, and Mainland China has always been the main market. Shanghai, the international center for economy, finance, trade, and shipping, is the primary building market in China. Its government aggressively develops the building market. The output value increases year by year; it even reached into RMB105.6 billion (NT$422.4 billion) in 2003. Such a great opportunity urges architectures in Taiwan to expand their territory to the PM of building market in Shanghai. This report is to analyze the SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat) of Taiwanese architects’ developing Construction Project Management (PCM) when they “go west.” By doing so, it evaluates the capability and competition strength of Taiwanese architects and the potential opportunities they may face. Meanwhile, it improves their weakness and tries to avoid the threats they may confront to enhance their competition strength. It is highly expected that this essay offers a clear introduction to the procedure, current situations, and related regulations of the market analysis of project management. By providing background knowledge and experiences of Taiwanese architects in China, this essay helps those who would like to “go west” understand their abilities and the problems they may encounter to prevent from troublems, and become an important imformation for developing PCM in Mainlan China.
