There are more and more people suffering the computer vision syndrome due to long term usage of computer. The purpose of this study is to develop a simple and low cost measurement system for studying the computer use-related eye strain. The reaction of eyeballs while watching animation on a computer screen can be recorded and analyzed. The near synkinetic response of eyes was demonstrated by training volunteers to eye track moving objects on a liquid crystal computer display. Pupil size is evaluated by transferring each eyeball image into binary image, so the area of pupil can be easily marked out. A change in diopter of eye was also measured before and after the eye tracking experiment. The results show that even just stare at monitor screen for a short period of time, it still can cause a measurable effect on eye sight.
