When the patients refused treatment in dangerous state, they will be compelled to take treatment. The Psychiatric Health Law has been in effect since 1990 in Taiwan. Coercive measures for psychiatric patients is based on this Law. However, when psychiatric patients in community need compulsory treatment, they are transported to hospitals by the public health nurses. The processes of coercive measures for psychiatric patients are often criticized, and the public health nurse’s experiences about this are unclear. According to the articles, coercive measures were related to the law, compulsory system, ethics, and development of the community psychiatry. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of coercive measures for psychiatric patients as narrated by the public health nurses. Method of this study was based on quantitative methodology, utilizing unstructured interview and purposive sampling. Research subjects were four Public Health Nurses, who came from urban, suburban and rural areas. Research results revealed six main themes, including work demand, inadequacy, nonsupport, emotional reactions, coping, and expectations. The findings of this study can be used to develop programs of coercive measures for public health nurses and to promote care quality of the psychiatric patients. 施欣欣 2006 學位論文 ; thesis 97 zh-TW
