Post-disaster experience and perceived risk significantly effect the formation of adjustments. The goal of the study is to examine the household adjustments after the 921 Earthquake: the association among disaster experience, risk perception, and adopted adjustments. This study will provide the references for the general public and decision-makers in disaster preparedness and response. The study uses two surveys. The study uses t-test and Chi-Square test to investigate the associations among household experience, risk perceptions, and adjustments. The study finds out the earthuquake experiences affect risk perceptions as time changes. Also, it reveals that the hazard experience and risk perceptions can effect household adjustments as time goes by. The household tends to improve the living environment and prepare needed goods and materials. These two adjustments reduce gradually after the initial impact; however, the household participation to community mitigation activities rise. The study concludes as follows. First, the government should strengthen public risk perceptions. People understand the information of impacts and adjustments, tend to adopt more adjustment activities. Second, the household should strengthen their knowledge in improving their living environment, as well as goods and materials preparation. They need to understand how to use these matierals. Finally, all households should refer to the impact experience of household in previously impacted area, thus reduce damages for future impacts.
