Summary: | 碩士 === 長庚大學 === 護理學研究所 === 94 === The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship among demographic data, menopause attitude, climacteric symptoms, locus of control and depression of women during menopause. A cross-sectional design used a structured questionnaires was applied in this study. The subjects aged between 40 and 59 were selected by convenience sampling of students’ mothers from a college in northern Taiwan. Total of 161 valid subjects were recruited in this study.
Data were collected from September 12 to November 1, 2005. For instruments were used: the Menopause Attitude Scale, the Climacteric Symptom Scale, the Rotter’s I/E Locus of Control Scale and the Center of Epidemiological Study Depression Scale. Percent rate, ANOVA, compare t test, multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data.
The results show that: (1) women who have depression symptoms are about 36%; (2)women who is external locus of control are about 50.3%; (3) most of women view that menopause is a natural phenomenon (4) back pain, joint ache, fatigued were the most commonly reported climacteric symptoms(5) women who are higher educational level have low depression symptom, positive menopausal attitude, internal locus of control(6) women who are free of disease, never ever hormone replacement therapy(HRT) frequently have lower climacteric symptoms; the climacteric symptoms scoring is higher perimenopause while compare with premenopause (7)the correlation between locus of control, climacteric symptom and depression symptom are positive; the correlation between menopause attitude and depression symptom are negative(8)in a multivariate model, climacteric symptom, locus of control and menopause attitude accounted for 49.1% of the variance in rating menopause as depression.
This study illustrate the relationship between menopause and depression . We may apply these findings to develop interventions technique and skills for preventing depression and promoting women’s mental health.
