碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 資訊管理所 === 94 === According to the Annual Internet Fraud Report of Internet Crime Complaint Center(IC3), among the various kinds of fraud that are occurring in the internet, one type of fraud that is most serious is Internet auction fraud. During 2004, Internet auction fraud was by far the most reported offense, comprising 71.2% of referred fraud complaints.(IC3, 2005). Internet auction fraud is due to faulty auction rule designed by the auction stakeholder and insufficient law. According to the National Consumers’ League, the bid shilling is the hardest to detect within internet auction fraud(Kauffman and Wood, 2003;National Consumer League, 2001). In this research, we adopt questionnaire investigation to examine if these factors are the characteristics of bid shilling. The questionnaire designed was based on auction process and literature review. The conclusions of the study are as followed. (1)Abnormal bidding behavior in bidding process probably is the characteristic of bid shilling. (2)Lower cognitive about average price of auction goods would raise risks of incurring bid shilling. (3)Average short duration of bid time probably is the characteristic of bid shilling. Bid Shilling is the hardest internet auction fraud to detect. This study presents the suggestion about how to avoid bid shilling in the final chapter. Key words: Online auction, Fraud, Bid shilling, Discriminant analysis
