Deflection routing resolves contention problem with better performance compared with existing techniques. An inefficient deflection algorithm leads to a failure when the offset-time arrives. For this reason, we propose an efficient and high performance heuristic deflection routing algorithm, which is region-controller based, to design dynamic deflection routing paths. Our approach computes the alternated routing path by an ILP model with low time complexity which is found by the region controller for each collision burst. We show that our approach is good enough in finding the deflection routes with high throughput and low drop rate. Finally, we use the ILP-based deflection routing, shortest path deflection routing, and on-demand deflection routing algorithm to route in various physical topologies when contention occurs at some intermediate nodes. Simulation results show that the drop rate and network throughput routed by on-demand deflection routing is close to that routed by the optimal ILP formulation. In addition to near-optimal performance, our approach is also able to handle each collision without periodically producing the deflection routing table in real-time request.
