There have been 37 Aftercare Enterprises established with the assistance of the Taiwan Aftercare Association since 2002. They are intending to provide jobs to after-inmates.
This study explores the motivation of establishing Aftercare Enterprises and the features of their hiring after-inmates, such as selecting standards, recruitment channels, and job performance. The methods adopted include literature review and interviewing the employers of Aftercare Enterprises.
The major findings are following: all Aftercare Enterprises are established mainly to offer job opportunities to after-inmates, but their establishment usually encountered some difficulties. With respect to hiring after-inmates, mostly are referrals by the Taiwan Aftercare Association. Most employers manage after-inmates on and off the job, provide competent salary to after-inmates, confirm their good performance, and will still hire some after-inmates in the future.
Some suggestions are provided to ameliorate the employment of after-inmates and promote employment of after-inmates: The Aftercare Enterprises employers may open more ways for spreading out “Aftercare Enterprises” information,establish selecting standards, assist after-inmates in savings; the enterprise employers may trustingly, or cooperate with the Taiwan Aftercare Association to employ after-inmates; the after-inmates may confirm their mind, look for assistance of social resource; the Taiwan Aftercare Association may propagate job information, inculcate general concept about working for ex-prisoners, offer and enhance skill trainings cohering with labor market’s need, simplify the difficulty of running aftercare enterprise, trace the job-left after-inmates’ conditions; the further study may master employment information of after-inmates, continue with tracing state of the Aftercare Enterprises employing after-inmates, and make up deficiencies of this study.
