ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to inquire into the literacy education program
to foreign spouses of Southeast Asia , and to their learning disturbances and learning attitudes.It will provide government policy establishment, curriculum programming of
education institution , and the learning guidance to foreign spouses with conclusion
and suggestions.
This research applied questionnaire survey method to carry it out. The research
samples are foreign spouses who studied in the literacy education program class in
Chi-Yi county held in ‘94 academic year. Valid samples are 303 people and the research tool is “ the inquisition questionnaire of learning disturbances and learning
attitudes to foreign spouses of Southeast Asia in literacy education program” which uses statistics methods such as description statistics, the one-way ANOVA ,and Pearson’s product-
moment correlation.
The conclusions of this research are as follows:
1. The highest level in learning attitudes to foreign spouses of Southeast Asia in the literacy education program is self-learning , the second level is school environments and courses planning, while the “teacher teaching “ is the lowest level. The attitudes of foreign spouses who participate in the literacy education program are positive and active.
They aim at learning words, adapting to life in Taiwan , and bringing up their children.
2. The “ language communication “ is the highest factor in learning disability to
foreign spouses of Southeast Asia , while “ the teacher teaching “ is the lowest factor. In language communication factor, “ writing “and “ reading “ are the most disturbant one.
3. Testers’ background variable (such as occupations) is related to the learning
attitudes of foreign spouses of Southeast Asia.
4. Testers’ background variable ( such as age, and numbers of children ) is related to learning disturbance factors to foreign spouses of Southeast Asia.
5. The learning disturbances and learning attitudes present negative relation. That is,
spouses of Southeast Asia.
who have lower learning disturbances have positive and active learning attitudes.
6. The learning of foreign spouses of Southeast Asia should lay stress on designing women-centered program.
1. Establish group discussion ,sharing and feedback.
2. Features of teaching
(1) Inspire women voices. (2) Women –centered learning features.
(3) Empowering and sharing experiences.(4) Provide as many opportunities
for them to talk and express opinions as possible.
According to the above results , the study suggestions for referencing are as follows:
1.The suggestion to government unit
(1) It is an urgent task to solve childrencare service.
(2) Enthusiastically invite scholars and experts to take part in the education problem
, develop reference books in approprite way and help foreign spouses’ self-learning effect.
2. The suggestion to education institution
(1) Provide service training for teacher who will and are teaching foreign spouses
of Southeast Asia and foster teachers’ ability of using multi-cultural literacy
textbooks and communicating in multi-language.
(2) Emphasize the importance of foreign spouses’
remedy teaching and establish counselor system.
(3) Establish the peer support system and social network to provide counseling
services.
3. The suggestion to teacher’s teaching and course
(1) Face up to the difficulty that foreign spouses encounter during study and adopt
effective teaching methods to inspire students’ interest in study.
(2) The learning of foreign spouses of Southeast Asia should lay stress on designing women-centered program.
4. The suggestion to follow-up related research of future
(1) Establish foreign spouses’ psychological counseling .
(2) Research on foreign spouses’ low social factors in taking part in adult education
and help to conquer obstacles.
