Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 國際經濟所 === 94 === The earning of the textile industry in Taiwan is still the main sources of foreign exchange earnings. It is also an important industry that promoted the economic development in Taiwan. But the global market of textile industry has changed during the last few decades. With the growing awareness of the importance between international competition and industrial development, this study wants to examine the competitive advantage of Taiwan’s textile industry. Two indexes, Export Market Share (EMS) and Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), were used to analyze the competitive tendency among Taiwan and its rival countries (Hong Kong and South Korea) between 1980 and 2004. For the fairness of comparison, we used the ESI (Export Similarity Index) to confirm that the export structures of Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea are the same. Moreover, we analyzed the competitive trend of textile industry among Taiwan and its rival countries by EMS and RCA. Finally, the Regression Model (OLS) was used to identify the factors that influenced the international competitiveness of the textile industry in Taiwan and the methods to increase the international competitiveness. The empirical results are: (i) Hong Kong’s textile industry has a higher EMS than those in Taiwan and South Korea. The EMS of all countries reduced gradually in recent years. (ii) The RCA in Taiwan and Hong Kong’s textile industry are higher than that of South Korea, and their RCA reduced in recent years. (iii) The capital, human-capital and the international competitiveness of Taiwan’ textile industry were positively correlated. (iv) The raising of economic growth rate and the gradually release of the quota of Multi-fiber Arrangement (MFA) has a negative effect on Taiwan’s textile industry. Some suggestions which based on the empirical outcomes of this study were provided to help the related authorities overcome the current situation.
