There are two kinds of structure modifications discussed in this thesis. The first is to remove parts of the structure and the sec-ond is to dent parts of the structure. In the first kind of structure modi-fication, effects of the location, amounts, and geometric sizes of re-moved parts on the natural frequencies of the original structure are discussed. As for the second kind of structure modification, the struc-ture is dented periodically. The structure is divided into segments and each segment includes a curved beam and a straight beam. The vibra-tion characteristics of the dented structure are determined by assem-bling the impedance of each structure segment. The application of im-pedance coupling technique is further extended to determining the dent size and location in order to obtain pre-designated natural fre-quencies.
