Electron deficient heteroaromatic rings such as pyridine, pyrimidine, and oxadiazole were incorporated into the Th core to facilitate intermolecular π-π interaction (effective distance < 3.8 Å) and provide electron-hopping pathways. In some saturated compounds trifluoromethyl group was also incorporated in order to convert electron-excessive Th segment to a n-type molecule. AFM and X-ray diffraction were used to characterize the stacking of molecule in the film after vacuum deposition. X-ray structural analysis for Th-SN was carried out: Monoclinic Z1/n; a = 13.686 Å; b = 6.034 Å; c = 14.153 Å, ?= 90o ; β = 104.255o; γ = 90o 。 The molecules were found to adopt a herringbone packing with the distance of π-π interaction at 3.643 Å.
