Although DoDAF provides the common framework of architecture description, there still exist several practical problems, such as humanly design error and cognitive diverseness in domain knowledge for architecture development. Therefore, this thesis provides a study on DoDAF-based architecture development not only employing Activity-Based Methodology (ABM), but also trying building architecture pattern to improve the interoperability, consistency, and integration of architecture product. An example study of joint air defense command and control architecture and four architecture patterns, high-level operational concept pattern, operation activity pattern, hierarchy command and control pattern and operation rule pattern, are built in this work. The characteristic of these patterns are multiple layers interception and attack, observe-orient-decide-action loop, and layered responsibility. Applying the operation rule pattern, the Army field air defense command and control system and Navy command and control rule model are finally derived in this paper. Therefore, the reusable capability of this pattern is demonstrated. The contribution of this study is developing a DoDAF-based reusable air-defense pattern with expert experience, which increases the interoperability and consistency of the architecture, shortens the architecture development period for designing air defense architecture, and provides the effective reference for developing operational architecture of air defense operation.
