The textures of the main structure of the red lacquer are Camphor, Stout Camphor, Large leaved Machilus and Red Machilus. These woods are the common trees in the lower elevation in Taiwan. The textures of the door board and wedge are Taiwan Incense cedar, which is stable and not warp. The lower sideboard of the upper cabinet are made of Pinewoods. Examine with “FTIR” , the red lacquer layer and the brown lacquer layer. All of them are natural urushi. The fill in the defects of the red lacquer wooden cabinet is the Kaolin. Analyze the red lacquer with SEM and E D X-ray, the red pigments are the cinnabar (Hg S). There are white color sediment on the leg of the lower cabinets. All of them are the hydrolysis of the granite. The metal accessories are the iron. We conserve the “Wealth and peace” red lacquer cabinet based on the reversible principles. The main conservation contents are as follows: A. Use the cyclododecane or wheat starch and Japanese paper to consolidate temporarily. B. Use insecticide Cyphenothrin to debug. C. Use Saliva to clean the surface. D. Use the Lee Valley fish glue to consolidate the crack and loose element. E. Use Malacca albizzia wood and GB03 micro bubbles mixed with the Parloid B72 to fill in the termite-damaged areas. F. To restore the missing and seriously damaged elements with Camphor woods. G. Inpaint the fill areas with Golden Acrylic color or the Schmincke Horadam Aquarell water color. The style of “Wealth and peace” red lacquer cabinet is the two cabinets placed together appeared in Taiwan from1860 to the Japanese governed period. According to the pinewood used on the red lacquer, It can be inferd that the cabinet was made around 1907-1926 or later. According to the trace of the circle-sawn machine and band-sawn machine, which were imported in 1931. The “Wealth and peace” red lacquer cabinet was made after 1931.
