The aim of the present study is to investigate and compare students’ learning effects and the retention effects in Tee ball throwing ability through teaching games for understanding-TGFU and the traditional teaching method-TTM. 78 subjects are the fifth and sixth graders from Dong-Yuan Elementary School in Taipei City in Academic Year 93. They are divided into 3 groups. Each group consists of 26 students. Group A is teaching through TGFU; whereas Group B is through the TTM. Group C is the control group. Descriptive Statistics, t-Test, One-way ANOVA, Scheff’e Test are applied to analyze the data. The results are summarized as follows:
(1) The learning effects in throwing ability of both Group A and B show the difference significantly. Therefore, we can infer that both TGFU and TTM work excellently in the elementary-school-students’ learning process of Tee ball throwing.
(2) Group A, B and C show the difference significantly. The results, “A>C, B>C”, reveal the fact that both TGFU and TTM work equally fine in the elementary-school-students’ learning process of Tee ball throwing.
(3) The result tells us that the post-tests and retention tests (in a week) show no difference. Hence, it presents the fact clearly that both TGFU and TTM one have great retention effect in the elementary-school-students’ learning process of Tee ball throwing.
