Description
Summary:碩士 === 淡江大學 === 國際事務與戰略研究所 === 93 === Abstract: How to avoid military conflict in the Taiwan Strait is the most important and complicated issue for Taiwan. This study is aimed to understand if military conflicts happened in the Taiwan Strait, what United State''s will do to deal with it, what are the options for United State''s to deal with it, and what is the possibility of military interference for the United State''s. This study analyzed the possibility of United State''s military interference from different aspects, such as national security, political situation, economy, military strategy, and regional security on behalf of both United State''s and Taiwan''s national interests. This study also analyzed United State''s intention, motivation, and legitimacy to conduct any military interference on conflicts in the Taiwan Strait. This study showed that the UnitedStates has provided an informal security guarantee to Taiwan, however, it still far behind Taiwan''s national security needs and could not meet up Taiwan people''s ideology for a full protection. This study concluded that the United State''s plays a big role on Taiwan''s security, however, the United State''s would not take any military interference on conflicts in the Taiwan Strait. The best way for Taiwanese to secure Taiwan is to be more flexible on its cross strait relations, thereby reducing tensions with China and lessening the prospects of military conflict in the Taiwan Strait.
