| Summary: | 碩士 === 淡江大學 === 日本研究所 === 93 === Under the instruction of doctor Akira Tomita , Isoko Tsuda wrote the paper titled “Analysis of pro-Japan attitude and self-concept of Taiwanese during Japanese colonial period". It made applicable to research the people from Taiwan born after the 1920s and received Japanese education. In this paper, they are called "Japanese generation." Although Japanese leaves Taiwan after the World War Two, they still continued using Japanese and were in contact with Japanese culture with familiarity. These people have so-called “pro-Japan attitude,” but why does this phenomenon exist? This paper analyses this situation from ten interviewers. During the interview, the writer especially paid attention to what the interviewers remembered or forgot, and what they wanted to talk about or didn’t. Then try to find out the process of the formation of self-concept, and analyze how the factor “Japan” affects them. The paper discovered the symbol of Japan to “Japanese Generation,” how they link their self-concept to Japan, and what is the reason for the pro-Japan attitude from these analyzed results.
Chapter 2 expressed a few core ideas about pro-Japanese attitude, self-concept, and memories. In chapter 3 and 4, we will have a discussion on the contents of the interviews. And all the descriptions about youth part are depended on the memory in Japanese colonial period. In addition to their living experiences, we can find how the interviewees lived in their grown-up ages and even in the afterward period. The writer will show the abovementioned in social comparison. As conclusion, chapter 5 analyzed the relationship between Japan and Japanese colonial period. We humans have self-respect and keep their self-concepts stable with it. People who ever lived in Japanese colonial period, encountering many events that can strongly shake their self-concepts in decades, such as the victory against Japan, the appearance of Chinese people, and the huge changes in the afterward Taiwan. When facing these difficult tests, people who ever lived in the Japanese colonial period will take Japanese, the Japanese spirit they learnt then or modern knowledge taught by Japanese teachers as their special characters. In the other words, those are their tools to show their merits.
