Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北科技大學 === 創新設計研究所 === 93 === Bamboo is a material which reflects Taiwanese lifestyle and culture and can be put into actual use. To upgrade the value in bamboo application through meticulous design is one of the major objectives in the development of bamboo industry. The purpose of this study is to establish the connection between bamboo and innovative design. Six styles of bamboo constitutions have been set up through literature review as well as fabrication and observation. A survey with Semantic Differential Technique as a research tool was conducted on 157 designers. Contents of questionnaire include images of the six bamboo styles, designers’ attitudes and opinions of bamboo in actual use. Conclusions, drawn from statistical analysis of survey results, are as follows: (1) All images of the six bamboo styles tend to yield a traditional, nice and cool, plain, and self-controlled feeling. The style of bamboo tube is with strong perception of tradition, down-to-earth, boldness and unconstraint. The bamboo profile represents elegance and self-control. Bamboo slice signifies elegance, delicacy, endurance, and compactness. Laminated bamboo characterizes modernism, practicality, endurance, as well as elegance, delicacy, and compactness. Bamboo weaving symbolizes lightness, ethereality, and coolness, while closely woven bamboo portrays delicacy and compactness, and loosely woven bamboo displays boorishness, fragility, relaxation, and slight vulgarity. (2) If designers are with background of industrial design, the higher educated the more they identify themselves with the value of bamboo application. The longer they have been in design career, the more interested they are in bamboo design. However, the ones who agree on bamboo value not necessarily show interest in design. (3) Designers suggest environmental protection and cultural bequeathal and continual are benefits of bamboo application, while the most difficulty lies in maintenance and fashion concern and lacking in processing knowledge.
