While temperature and humidity contribute to the aerosol concentrations, air velocity is the dispersion factor. Occupant activity also elevate the aerosol concentration inside the building. Bacterial aerosols in business buildings, with concentrations all higher than 1000CFU/m3, are in the high range. For fungoid aerosols, the concentrations in banking and tele-communication buildings are also in the high range, while stock exchange offices and schools are in the medium range. In addition, concentrations of biological aerosols outside business buildings in Pingtong area are positively correlated with the frequency of people entering or leaving the building. Thus, banks and tele-communication offices are observed to have highest concentrations of biological aerosols. A yearly monitoring of biological aerosols in the business building in Pingtong area show highest concentrations in April(wet season). Concentrations of bacterial aerosols show a trend of decreasing from April, 2004 to February, 2005(dry season). For fungoid aerosols, concentrations are observed to decrease from April, 2004 to July, 2004, but a reversed trend is observed from July, 2004 to Feb. 2005. The concentrations of biological aerosols sampled with Burkard sampler and Andersen N6 samplers are in the high and medium range respectively(t-test, p<0.05). Therefore, the labeling of biological hazard class should consider the discrepancy in samplers. The dominant fungi in this study are Arthrobotryum 、Aspergillus、Bactrodesmium、 Fusarium、Penicillium、Talaromyces , Yeasts, among which, Arthrobotryum、Aspergillus、 Penicillium, and Yeasts mostly produce from April to July, 2004, while Bactrodesmium and Fusarium produce mainly from November, 2004 to February, 2005. Aspergillus、Penicillium and Yeast are the most common causing allergens and pathogens. Above 86 % of the Gram’s positive bacterium was found from the business building in Pingtong Area.
