In addition to provide them vocational training for helping them to find jobs in cities, developing and transforming indigenous communities into tourist attractions with the unique ethnical culture and traditions would be one of the important and effective ways to promote their employment opportunities locally. This becomes one of the essential goals of the government and the people. Although officials have tried to implement various policies and projects to help indigenous people to develop their own communities, the desired outcomes of promoting their employment rate were not realized, due to the lack of consideration of their unique demographic characteristics. Therefore, the present study aimed at exploring the attitudes of the people in indigenous communities on integrating tourist resources and the unemployed people for the development of indigenous communities. This study was utilizing a mixed quantitative and qualitative methods design, which includes semi-structured interviews and survey questionnaires. There were five key persons interviewed to get in-depth information for the purpose of developing the questionnaire. Four hundred and fifty questionnaires were randomly distributed to the villages in San-De-Men Area with a valid return rate of 71.3%. The findings indicated that overall the indigenous people had quite favorable attitudes toward maintaining traditional cultures and the environment; however, they tended to believe that there is still space for the government to improve. In addition, they also positively agreed that integrating the natural resources and the unemployed people to develop their villages into a tourist attraction could be one effective way to increase their employment opportunities. Respondents with lower level of educational attainment had stronger concerns of maintaining traditional cultures than their counterparts. Those who had higher overall family income were less concerned about their community, which is worth of officials to be concerned. It is also worth to note that many of the respondents had doubts on the national rules and regulations related to how they interact with the environment where they have relied on to make a living for centuries. Those national rules and regulations were considered to be as a disturbance to their lives and traditions. Moreover, residents in indigenous communities do believe that integration of tourist resources, traditions and cultures, and unemployed people should be an effective means to enhance their self-sufficient ability as well as keeping the residents from relocating to cities. It is hoped, by the indigenous people, that the government could develop better plans for the development of indigenous communities so that the employment of indigenous people would be no longer an issue.
