Summary: | 碩士 === 世新大學 === 圖文傳播暨數位出版學研究所(含碩專班) === 93 === Once image is invested with function, it comes into multi-dimensions of culture, society and communication, free from art constraint. The strategy of photographic concept is to find the different meanings of image using these multi-dimensions. On this account, this study refers to semiotics to investigate the relations between photographic concept and image formation. Interested in photography about culture and icon, engaged in photography of political activities, I will quote such semiotic scholars’ viewpoint as Roland Barthes, Charles S. Peirce and George Herbert Mead to explore the context of image and impression.
From image “perception” to intention “recognition” is the main point of icon deciphering in this study. Visual perception of image from which eyes scan picture’s shape has some basic prototypes. For Gestalt psychology, these prototypes have the same rules such as similarity, continuity and grouping. For semiotics, they are code classification and structural basic of cultural meanings. Simplified pattern and symbol can evoke lookers some associations of thought which is “to know the obvious from the trifles”. The image makers hope these associations restrained by symbol structures can establish icon impression, and evoke image recognition to icon signified .
Photographic concept can be some kind of thought, idea or technical performance, which purpose is to help the picture makers expressing the image of work. However, the image of work also need some concept to decipher the subject, and lead the lookers to establish the main impression.
