Summary: | 碩士 === 東吳大學 === 音樂學系 === 93 === Paul Hindemith(1895-1963)who was a composer, performer, conductor, and educator had unique thought and style of composing which brought new musical ideas in the twenty century. He didn't accept temporal twelve-tone music but composed with the technique what is called “Neoclassicism” which integrated baroque, classical and modern methods. This study “Hindemith's Flute sonata” is the work which influenced by this conception.
Although this Flute Sonata composed in traditional forms, it is conceived not by tonality but by Hindemith's “center-tone theory” which reveals that he is not restricted by the formulas of traditional tonality. The technique of linear counterpoint makes transverse melodies much more noticed than vertical harmony. The representative rhythm of each movement not only puts all paragraphs together but also increases the pulse of music. In the subject of “Musical interpretation”, this Flute Sonata is influenced by Neoclassicism, so the performer should play in an objective and rational fashion. It is important that the performer should control the change of style of speed, dynamic and atmosphere. Because of the compact connection of motive material, it requires the flutist and pianist to have the privity of cooperation. All these issues make “Hindemith's Flute sonata” play an important role in the flute works of twenty century.
