Summary: | 碩士 === 東吳大學 === 社會工作學系 === 93 === The purpose of this study is to understand the course of entrusting abused child to the care of foster family and the harvest and the conflict that occurred during the course, the introspection after the course were being discussed. This study were adopted a qualitative approach, and in-depth interview with six foster mothers who were from the family service center of World Vision of Taiwan and possessed with first time successful experience of taking care of abused child.
According to the issues of the study, the results of the study were divided into “The course of taking care of abused child” and “The introspection after the course”. The abstracts were shown as following:
I. The course of taking care of abused child
The course of taking care of abused child is referring to the preparation and cognition before the course, the experience of living with the child, the preparation before the child leaving foster family and the change of child after leaving. The researcher divided the course into five process: 1.”Joing with happiness”, 2.“Ignorant”, 3.”Turbulent”, 4.”To be reluctant to part”, 5.”Tranquility”. The foster parents with various reasons join the program of foster family who prepare and discuss with their family members. With the initiation of the abused child to the family, the family also begins a different life style. Because of the abuse child who has mental and physical problems, which will pound the foster family members and school teacher. It also makes lots of pressure on the foster parents. Some foster parents want to give up when facing the pressure, but also with strong determination and faith to keeping facing the problems. The foster parents are reluctant to let the child leaving them, however, still happy and giving the child blessing. In the meanwhile the foster parent has to readapt to the new coming life.
II. The introspection after the course
For foster parents, all the painful experience, negative feelings will be disappearing with the leaving of the abuse child. The gifts to the parents were beautiful memories and irreplaceable experience which makes them learned more things. Things like how to discipline efficiently, love and tolerance. The experience also makes the family members widen their field of view, enhancing the family affection, and also provides the different opportunity of learning for the family member. The most important thing is that the experience makes them not to be afraid to taking care of the abuse child.
The study shows that the successful foster parents were not necessary to possess high educational background or occupational abilities but only high abilities to facing pressure and frustration. The faith “Never give up” is the key for the successful foster parents, however, not necessary having profound professional support. The successful foster parents were who can face the problems of abuse child, not necessary to change the child but not to make things worse. A temporary, safety, full of love, regularly living environment that provided by foster parents are much more important than process professional knowledge or not. In the end of this study will provide some advices for foster parents, foster organization and public.
