We hope to more understand about technical and tactics and main technical items of the players who use speedy near the table attacking strike in big ball (40mm) and small ball (38mm) competitions. We also hope to make our people pay more attention to the Sports Science by the research, thus have the assistance to enhance the competitive sports level in our country. The research takes Liu guoliang, Chinese excellent male player, as the target. We collect what he confronted with other excellent players in big ball and small ball competitions from 1999 to 2001. We record the competition data, and divide the main techniques into serve attack phase, receive attack phase, double cutting phase, pushing phase, and mutual attack phase. We use the table tennis record sheet from players’ views to record the offensive and defensive technical ability, and analyze the data by the average of descriptive statistics, standard deviation, and paired t test. The results are, (1) In Liu guoliang integrated technical performances in big ball and small ball competition, the highest in scoring average is forehand side serve attack phase, and most of the using rate is backhand side pushing phase. The scoring average and using rate of the actual action decrease when he uses the big ball. (2) In Liu guoliang integrated technical performances of different diameter ( 40mm and 38mm) table tennis competitions, the scoring average and using rate which include that serve attack phase, receive attack phase, double cutting phase, pushing phase, and mutual attack phase have no significant differences (p>.05). The researchers think that the different balls have no differences about Liu guoliang technical ability and experiences. The reasons to decide success or failure still need to research from other factors; even in the view of fundamental integrated technical performances, both the scoring average and using rate of the actual action decrease after using the big ball.
