The yields of essential oils extracted were between 0.09 and 2.65%, the average yield was 0.45%.A total of 51 components were identified from the oils, and the main components include cinnamaldehyde, linalool, cinnamyl acetate, citral 2, citral 1 and β-cabebene. According to the content of first main component to classify Cinnamomum osmophloeum, the 98 plants were classified into five types- cinnamaldehyde type, linalool type, β-cabebene type, cinnamyl acetate type and mixed type. Using principal components analysis (PCA) to do cluster analysis, the 98 plants were classified into 13 types. And according to the first three main components to classify Cinnamomum osmophloeum, the 98 plants could be classifed into 16 types. The DPPH free radical scaverging effect of the essential oils extrated from Cinnamomum osmophloeum leaves was evaluated. The DPPH free radical scaevrging effect was related to cinnamyl acetate and cinnamaldehyde present, the best effect was exhibited by NO. 18 Cinnamomum osmophloeum leaf essential oil, which contains 89.96% cinnamic acetate and cinnamaldehyde, followed by NO. 41, which contains 74.86% cinnamic acetate and cinnamaldehyde. The results obtained hereby provide valuable information for the selection of high essential oil yield clones among indigenous cinnamon grown in Hwa-Lin Forest Experimental Station, in order for a fast and effective selection of different types of Cinnamomum osmophloeum for new products development.
