The process parameters considered in this study are die corner radius, hold time at a specified temperature, billet heating temperature, ring gap height, type of material, billet diameter, friction condition, and surface treatment. After a series of experiments , the warping characteristics of the flange forging are analyzed and the effective solutions to solve the warping problem can be found. Through the experiments the following conclusions can be made : First, die corner for chamfer design can improve the warping phenomenon effectively. Second, the larger ring gap height and dry friction can improve warping problem. Third, polish treatment of the billet can obtain the best flange outer protruding shape and the best bottom flatness in the dry friction condition. Forth, turning treatment of the billet diameter can offer the good lubrication result and reduce the pressure of forging. These results of this study do offer some useful knowledge about the warping problem of aluminum alloys flange forging process.
