Internal materials of the case study company were acquired and interviews with suppliers and clients were conducted to establish the case company’s corporate strategy. The paper studies the determinants of the subscription time for information services and also explores the use of distributed multi-agent systems to improve dynamic routing and traffic management of information services. The data in this study was collected form multiple sources including documentation, archival records, direct observation, and participant observation.
Information users will soon benefit from improved information providers that deliver customized and expanded online coverage of the huge amount of online materials. Specifically, this study finds that, first, information providers globally must be ready for the total electronic text environment to cope with the paperless future; second, key success factors for information service industries are value-added services, the ability to withhold content in an electronic format, and acquiring copyrights of the content; and finally that information providers should enhance the linking ability of content to achieve higher search results, use product expansion as a growth strategy, and set up strategic planning which implements control processes.
