Abstract
Shen Shih Hsi is the most famous writer for creating the animal novels of both sides of the Straits, and his works which are well received by readers always make a hit with book-selling market. His works take Xishuangbanna of Yunnan as the background, the animals or the people as main characters, the adventure of jungle life as the theme to present an animal world which is composed of various elements- birth, age, sickness, death, love, hatred, affection, and avengement. The conflict, the violence, the bloody movement, and the death unavoidably exist the interactions among people and animals. The above characteristics of Shen Shih Hsi's animal novels make his work unique in children's literature and leave much room to be discussed.
This thesis, based on Shen Shih Hsi's animal novels which have published in Taiwan, tries to do a comprehensive study to discuss the death phenomenon in his works as the main point, with the “life-and-death studies” and “grief counseling and grief therapy” theory. The death classification in his works according to the death certificate of Department of Health is as follows: commit suicide, homicide, natural death.
