The purpose of the research was to study the inner process of
novice counselors during their counseling practicum. To explored the interaction between novice counselors’ life experiences and learning experiences, and realized the meanings to novice counselors.
The participates included five students enrolled in Masters Program of counseling at the time of their counseling practicum. Qualitative method was employed based on constructivism approach. The resulting data was collected from semi-structural in-depth interviews, participates’ diaries, and the research’s notes in order to exactly understand their experiences. In the process of this research, the main focus of the interviews were on the life experiences and learning experiences of novice counselors, and the inner process of novice counselors during counseling practicum.
There are some conclusions as follows: the challenges encountered by novice counselors include personal-special issues, the limitations of their professional ability and the imperfections of the counseling practicum at the present time. These novice counselors gradually developed their coping styles and professional identity during their internship. The writer explores those situations from two levels: One is the subjective inside process of the learner; the other is the discussion of the challenges which the interns could meet during their internship from the viewpoint as interns, schools and the institutions.
