Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 機械與輪機工程學系 === 93 === This paper investigates heat and mass transfer characteristics during hydrogen absorption/desorption in a metal hydride (AB5, rare-earth system) reaction bed. The effects of several important parameters mentioned in Sun and Deng[10] are studied both experimentally and numerically. These parameters include charging/discharging pressure, coolant temperature, coolant flowrate, and the ratio of bed height to bed radius (H/R). It is indicated that for hydrogen absorption, the most dominant parameter in affecting the reaction rate is the charging pressure, next are coolant temperature and H/R, and the least significant one is coolant flowrate. As for hydrogen desorption, coolant temperature is the most important parameter while coolant flowrate the least important, due to limited variation in discharging pressure. Moreover, the effective conductivity of the reaction bed ke is also experimentally investigated. The author adopts Kunii method [20] for measuring ke at steady state. It was found that ke increases from 1.2 to 1.6 W/m-K when bed pressure increases from 0.5 to 40 bar. This trend is in agreement with literature.
