Gmel), a water plant belongs to the lotus family, grows in swampy areas in Taiwan, China, Japan, korea, Australia or USA etc..(Osborn and Schneider, 1988; Lloyd and Kershaw, 2004). Junsai has been reported that it contains rich of polysaccharides , proteins, minerals such as Fe, Ca, Me, Zn, Ka, Mn and P, some water soluble vitamins such as Vitamins C, B1, B2. B6, and B12 and some human essential amino acids. Traditional, it has been used as a vegetable in Japan, China etc.. The edible parts are the young leave and stem that usually coated with a transparent mucilages. The mucilage is very rich in polysaccharides. In the last ten years, the study and research developments of the application of polysaccharides in biotechnology expanded rapidly. If the usage of Junsai polysaccharides could be extended to new areas such as cosmetics or biomedical materials, this will elevate the value of Junsai and provide the chosen alternates of variety polysaccharides. Increasing evidences showed that platelets are not more than the plug to stop bleeding, but also has the ability to release a variety of growth factors that can modulate tissue repaired and metabolism regulation. The goal of this study is to explore the capacity of protective effect of the polysaccharides of Junsai on the platelets-cyclodextrins attached complex by ionic interactions to extend the storage life of platelet to be used in various biomedical applications. The polysaccharides of Junsai was separated by ethanol, and frozen dried at -30aC. The freezing dried powder was dissolved in an isotonic sodium chloride solution of three different pHs. The solutions were used to coat the platelets-cyclodextrins attached complex by the counter-ion effect of the polyelectrolytes of Junsai polysaccharides. The release of growth factors of EGF, TGF and PDGF were measure by the respectively ELISA kits to compare and elucidate the protection effect of different pH polysaccharide solutions of Junsai. The protective effect of the solutions of chitosan, collagen or sodium carboxy methyl cellulose were also studied. The data of the activities of growth factors release from the platelets-cyclodextrins attached complex coated with pH 6 polysaccharides solution of Junsai could be retained higher amount and longer periods than those coated with other two pHs solution of 5 or 4 on the zero, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th and 56th days. The platelets-cyclodextrins attached complex coated with pH 6 polysaccharides solution of Junsai showed better protection effect than those coated with chitosan, collagen or Sodium carboxy methyl cellulose solutions.
