| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 幼兒教育學系碩士班 === 93 === The purpose of this study is to develop a parent education program based on the needs of the foreign mothers, and to understand their applications of the parenting knowledge and the changes of their parenting viewpoints. Based on the needs of parent education for the participators, the researcher designed a parent education program and constantly revised it through the course. Participators were 5 mothers with young children and came from Indonesia and Vietnam. The researcher collected data through semi-structured in-depth interviews and observation records in the classes. Every participator was interviewed twice individually. In the course, they also participated in group interviews..
Findings were depicted in three subjects. First issue was about the foreign mothers’ understanding and needs of parenting. They took care of their children but ignored the children’s mental need. They educated their children by the way their mothers parented them. Because of the difference of the language and culture, the reason that the grandparents doted on their grandchildren, and the non-coincident attitude in the way the father taught the children, the foreign mothers educated their children with obstacles as expected. The second subject was the scheme and practice of the foreign mothers’ parent education program. The program was revised according to the reaction of the foreign mothers. By way of constantly adjusting and modifying the program and extending the course hours, the program was expected to work for them. The last subject was the transformation of the foreign mothers after theie completion of the parent education program. The foreign mothers could get a psychological support and encouragement from the group, share parenting experiences with each other, and grow in the program. Because of the progress, the marital and the mother-child elationships had been improved. Their parenting viewpoints were different from what they had before after the program.
According to the findings, the research suggested the scheme and practice of a parent education program for the foreign mothers, their families, the government, the schools, and the associated organizations. Hopefully through the programs, the foreign mothers mat obtain assistance and suppot for the parenting roles and become
effective ones.
