In this study, there are two methods to study the micro cutting. One is experiment. In the experiment, a micro machining platform is designed. The platform consists of several PZT to drive the work-piece (made of Cu) and a diamond tool which is fixed on the platform, the work-piece is moved by PZT to contact with diamond tool and the tool cut the work-piece. A load cell is mounted on diamond tool to measure the cutting force. The other is using ANSYS to simulate the micro cutting. Both in experiment and simulation, the cutting force in difference cutting depths, the minimum cutting depth, size effect and rebound ratio are studied.
