For the increasing income of families and the fast pace of the present day, low-temperature logistics, also called cold chain logistics, have to deliver and warehouse products under stipulated temperature. For acceding to WTO (World Trade Organization), the market of frozen foods and chilled foods in Taiwan is growing rapidly.
Besides, RFID is a new technology of identification management, and it is thought as a very important technology that can influence the development of global industries, especially in the logistics industry. Barcode scanning can identify products by quickly scanning a label, but there are also disadvantages such as limited capacity of label and requiring physical scanning inherent in the barcode system.
This research tries to construct process reference model for cold chain logistics based on SCOR model and applies RFID technology as a best practice for cold chain logistics. Therefore, we propose an improved process reference model for cold chain logistics based on SCOR model. Actually, it is impossible to apply a new technology without changing business process. This research has proposed quantitative performance measures and customer satisfaction related measures and applied simulation tool to depict the hierarchy of SCOR model and to construct simulation models based on SCOR model. Hopefully, this research results can provide a good reference for cold chain logistics industry to extend the efficiency of RFID technology.
