Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立台北護理學院 === 聽語障礙科學研究所 === 93 === The purpose of this study is to compare the different attitudes towards stuttering between speech-language therapists (SLTs) and the general population, and analyze the different attitudes towards stuttering in accordance with the different backgrounds of the SLTs. “The Attitude towards Stuttering Questionnire” was employed to explore the attitudes of SLTs and general people in terms of three domains of stuttering, including: 1. the etiology of stuttering; 2. the stutterer; and 3. the technique and efficacy of stuttering therapy. The questionnaires were sent to 456 SLTs and 400 general population. For SLTs and general population, the valid percentage of returned questionnaire are 40.8% and 46.0%, respectively. The results of this study were as follows: 1.the SLT has more accurate knowledge regarding stuttering etiology and positive attitudes toward stuttering people than those of the general population. 2. Both SLTs and the general population hold high confindance on the therapeutic techniques and effectiveness for stuttering people; 3. The significant differences existed in the attitudes towards stuttering etiology among different SLT groups of education, taking stuttering class, professional background, working experience, and having treatment for stuttering clients or not; 4. However, there were no differences in the attitudes towards stuttering among different SLT groups of age, gender, membership, wording location, taking stuttering courses or not, working in hospital or not, and the number of stuttering persons they had treated; 5. Finally, the SLTs’ attitudes towards the therapiutic techniques and effectiveness for stuttering population weren’t different among the groups with various backgrounds. Limitations of the study and worthwhile future studies are discussed.
