This research applies RCT design and was based on parallel testing rule. A total of 81 participants were recruited from the outpatient department of internal medicine from a medical center in Northern Taiwan. After obtaining the consent, participants were assigned the experimental group (n=41) and the control group (n=40). The experimental group received MBHE and routine clinical health education (i.e. educational booklet) while the control group received routine clinical health education. Pretest was conducted prior to the intervention and the posttest held 3 months after the intervention via phone. The validity of the study instruments was conducted using expert review and the internal reliabilities ranged from 0.85-0.88. A total of 79 participants completed the data collection with the completion rates of 100% and 95% for the experimental group and the control group respectively. The typical participants aged 55.40 (±12.32), female(56.8%), with less than junior high school education (67.9%), and unemployed. In overall, the participants’ knowledge of disease score in pre-test and post-test were 10.10±4.24 and 13.35±2.48, and the self-efficacy score were 99.06±13.63 and 111.76±11.06. Result of the generalized estimating equation (GEE) found that with no knowledge and self-efficacy in self-care shown no significantly difference between the experimental group and the control group, and the higher age of the participants, the lower the scores they got in knowledge of disease and Self-efficacy; the higher understanding about hepatitis C that participants feel they have, the higher the scores they got in knowledge of disease and Self-efficacy. In addition, the majority of participants think positively of health education, especially the experimental group was the most satisfied with multimedia health education disk for improving knowledge of disease and contenting requirement. In conclusion, making good use of diversified information still helps to the spread of hepatitis C healthcare knowledge. Although the study’s major findings can’t confirm significantly with MBHE and routine clinical health education. Recommendations for further research were as follows combine the method of triangulation, and incorporated with laboratory data as evaluation indicates to follow trail long-term effect of knowledge and self-efficacy in self-care by multi media information system.
