The population of the Tayal is second to Amis. The tribe is a basic unit, called Gaga in the Tayal. Recently there has been a trend for the Tayal to rehabilitate a part of aboriginal culture, and to rebuild relation of culture to the future generation. The objectives were described fishing gears and methods of the Tayal lived in Huanshan. This survey proceeded at Huanshan tribal village in Heping ,Taichung . Snowball sampling and non-probability sampling were used to collect lists of in-depth interviewers the aged and experienced fishers. The design of interview questions was used to know their traditional fishery, including fishing zone, types of fish for consuming and the associated consuming habit, gears and methods for fishing, traditional taboos, and myths or legends related to fishing. Fishing gears and methods of the Tayal was developed from experience. The results were including they had their own tribal fishing zone to fish. Fishing methods were collected and classified into two types. One type was fishing methods abolished now, and another one was fishing methods still used. The survey results also included consuming habits and traditional taboos of fishing. It suggests that to use traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) of aboriginal people is to manage wildlife animals. For example, aboriginal people used traditional fishery to enhance the effect of conservation of wildlife animals. It maybe achieve to the sustainable use of wildlife animal resource.
