Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東科技大學 === 資訊管理系 === 93 === Video streaming is widely used in many multimedia services deployed in Internet today. However, because of the limited bandwidth and large delay jitter in wide area network (WAN), video streaming suffers from long initial startup delay and unstable transmission quality. To alleviate this problem, proxy servers are often deployed between video servers and clients for caching video segments to improve the efficiency of data sharing and reduce network response time. This thesis particularly focuses on a network environment consisting of several independent multicast domains. We propose a novel scheme, termed proxy-assisted video segment chaining scheme (PVSCS). The scheme tries to build up a chain of video segments cross multiple domains, which facilitates inter-domain video segment sharing. Through simulation, we demonstrate that PVSCS can effectively improve the system performance in terms of improving the hit-ratio and reducing WAN traffic at moderate cost on inter-domain LAN traffic.
