Factor analysis is applied to construct coastal protection forest in Northern and Central Taiwan health indicators in order to make the classification of tree health easier, and discriminate analysis functions are also constructed to predict tree health conditions. After the application of factor analysis those health-related variables have been classified into five factors: 1. branch vigor indicator, 2. bark damage indicator, 3. branch insect eat indicator, 4. root damage indicator, 5. crown vigor indicator. The five factors above can explain 92% of the cumulative for total variance which are with high explication, and then they are used to classify tree health. The result of stand discriminate analysis shows that the hit rate is 88%, and it represents that the indicators produced by factor analysis are useful in complementing tree health classification. The hit rate using the original observed variables is 92%. The result of original observed variables stepwise discriminate analysis shows that the hit rate is 92%, and it represents that the constructed discriminate functions are with high predictability. The result of stand stepwise discriminate analysis shows that the hit rate is 88%. The above procedure can not only construct health indicators of coastal protection forest in Northern and Central Taiwan, but also evaluate tree health conditions, and then the manager can proceed the tree conservation and management by objective and effective method. Vegetation investigates record total plant of 31 species in 21 families. The result of soil investigate: 1. soil color is most of yellow ash, 2. soil texture is most of sandy soil, 3. soil hardness range is from 0.4-20 mm, 4. 22 plots are acidity soil most of 30 years in Miaoli, 5. soil salt has 7 plots is middle salt serious of Changhua. Cause of soil factor investigate can annotation tree grows condition, aimed victim serious areas should monitoring, and improve that present.
