In exp. 1, 320 commercial day-old Arbor Acres broiler chicks were randomly divided into 4 treatment groups with 2 replicates for both male and female in each treatment. The 4 treatment groups were fed with control (basal diet), lactobacillus group (basal diet + lactobacillus 0.1%), synbiotics group (basal diet + synbiotics 0.1%) and antibiotics group (basal diet + chlortetracycline 55ppm). The experimental period was six weeks. Feed and water were provided ad libitum. Exp. 2 was conducted at a commercial farm by using 2 environmental controlled houses with 39580 birds (control) and 38760 birds (synbiotics) in each house. Commercial broiler feed was fed to the control group while 0.1% synbiotics was added to the treatment group. The experimental period was 39 days. Feed and water were provided ad libitum. The results in exp. 1 showed that there was no significant difference on average body weight gain among all groups. And, the average feed intake was significantly lowered in the synbiotic group compared to the control group and the feed conversion ratio (F/G) was improved about 5% (1.76 vs. 1.86). In the immune response, the ND anti body titers at 21 and 42 days of age were more consistent for the probiotic and synbiotic groups than the control group. The results in exp. 2 showed that the treatment group with 0.1 % synbiotic supplementation in the diet had better market body weight (2120 vs. 1983gm / bird), production index (304 vs. 288) and gross profit (13.26 vs. 12.17 NTD /bird) than the control group. The overall improvement was about 6-9 % for the synbiotic treatment. How-Hong Hsieh 謝豪晃 2005 學位論文 ; thesis 72 zh-TW
