碩士 === 國立屏東師範學院 === 體育學系碩士班 === 93 === The Change of Society and Development of Recreational Sports in Postwar Taiwan（1945-2003） Abstract There are three purposes about the research: firstly, to discuss the change of society in the postwar Taiwan. Secondly, to understand the developmental trend of recreation sports in the changing society of postwar Taiwan through the influence of international recreational sports, China youth corps, YMCA, and recreational sports industry. Thirdly, to provide government and civil enterprises with this reference to create popular sports so that people will be fond of them and the public fitness and power can be further enhanced. The approaches uses historical research, and defines recreational sports by document analysis, further, to discuss the development of recreational sports from many aspects, such as politics, economy, education, culture and so on in the society of postwar Taiwan. The conclusions are as follows: 1. In postwar Taiwan, the politics is stable and democracy forms; economy is prosperous and national income increases; quantity and quality are both valued in education; the culture changes from traditional, agricultural, collective, and reminiscent type to outer-directed, individual, promising one. 2. In holoscopic view of international recreational sports development, no country good at sports dose not take advantage of its professional sports to promote national recreational sports, which is worthy of note when our government develops recreational sports. 3. China youth corps and YMCA spare no effort to provide people with various needs, holding a lot of dynamic recreational activities, and provide many opportunities for people from different level to participate. They make great contribution to the stability of society and the development of recreational sports. 4. There are many health-directed industry now, like gymnasium. They all put great emphasis on the management of recreational sports, expecting to meet every one’s various needs of good quality. At the same time, by means of the popularization of recreational sports, they can make the whole business develop better. 5. The developmental trend of recreational sports in postwar Taiwan: After the war, agricultural society broke down and national income was very low. People’s basic needs were urgent. So every one worked very hard without the recreational concept. Their rest was recreation, viewing recreational sports is a waste of time. In industrial society, people’s income was still low, devoting their time to product, ignoring recreation. Only when celebration came, they engaged in it. General people did not respect it until economy got prosperous and politics got stable gradually, and then they would grab the recreational right. In information society, economy kept growing, and politics democratized, so recreational time increased, but some disorder caused by civilization occurred. The age of recreation comes, national recreational sports being appreciated very much, all of which accelerate the development of recreational sports industry.
