Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 教育學系 === 93 === Parental involvement in schooling is a crucial issue in education in the recent years. However, in Taiwan, although the comprehensive survey results concerned parental involvement has found the relationship between the factors of family social economic status, family structure and parental involvement, but actually was unable to explain how these factors did affect the parental involvement. The study employed parents’ interpersonal relations and consciousness of attitudes toward school support as intervening variables, to explore how these factors affected parental involvement by questionnaire among 1859 parents of elementary school children in Kaohsiung county and city. Using the stratified cluster random sampling method, the statistical methods, consisting of factor analysis, frequencies analysis, variance analysis, multiple regression and path analysis, were adopted to analyze the research data.
The main findings of the study were as following:
1. The quality of parent-teacher relationship has somewhat low tendency, the quality with the relatives and friends then is good, and the consciousness of attitudes toward school support generally holds the positive view. It’s not common for parents in participation of schooling.
2. The interpersonal relations have positive influences on “parent-teacher connections”. Both the quality of parent-teacher relationship and consciousness of attitudes toward principal support have positive influences on “school decision-making and governance ” and “children’s learning activities”.
3. The results of path analysis in the study supported the cause-effect model on three dimensions of parental involvement behaviors. It’s that such differences between the population of societal-economical status variables and parental involvement behaviors mainly resulted from parents’ “interpersonal relations” and “consciousness of attitudes toward school support”.
Finally, according to the results, the researcher gives further relative suggestions about promotion of educational policies and future studies.
