Adequate fire tests are needed to test materials. Now in Taiwan, the Surface Test and Incombustibility Test (CNS 6532) are used. In addition, the Cone Calorimeter (ISO 5660), LIFT (ISO 5658) and Room Test (ISO 9705) are used internationally. Among those test methods, only Room Test is a full-scale test. In addition, the size and orientation of specimen, capability of igniter and thermal environment of those test methods are different, which are regarded to influence the fire behavior of materials. These differences may lead to different fire performance classes when materials are tested using those test methods. The consistency of test results using those methods is consequently evaluated in this study. Furthermore, the feasibility of replacing a full-scale test by small-scale tests, the effect of surface materials, e.g. wall paper and wall cloth, and the thickness of substrate on the fire performance class judgment were studied. 34 materials were tested using those test methods and results were analyzed in the view of fire dynamics. Four fire parameters including heat release rate, smoke production, surface ignitibility and mass loss were discussed. The results showed that, in heat release evaluation, the relations among the test results are significant (R2>0.75) except Incombustibility Test. However, the relations of data of smoke production, surface ignitibility and mass loss are not obvious. In addition, after attaching wall paper or wall cloth on materials, the fire performance class of materials was changed in this study. It can be seen that the choosing of surface materials is important. Furthermore, the thickness of substrate did not influence the fire performance in Surface Test but in Incombustibility Test.
