Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 營建工程所 === 93 === Embankments engineering was traditional structured with RC retaining wall. RC retaining wall was not to achieve a stable mechanical system at longtime. RC retaining wall has a considerably impact to the surrounding environment. It was evident that RC retaining wall was not a good engineering method. Reinforced retaining structures can reduce construction cost, shorten workdays, vegetated readily, and it has a considerably low impact to the surrounding environment. The traditional RC retaining wall is gradually replaced by the reinforced retaining structures in construction. Reinforced embankment seldom structured in mountainous area. However, reinforced embankment was not to structured with a lack of sufficient space for using traditional engineering methods. The reinforced embankment was unstabile because which was insufficient in width of the reinforcement. To achieve a stable mechanical system, the soil nails on back of the reinforced earth structures are designed to provide additional resisting forces for stabilizing the reinforced retaining structures which are insufficient in width of the reinforcement. This research studied mechanical behavior of a reinforced embankment strengthened by soil nails. The reinforced embankment strengthened by soil nails mechanical behavior was analyzed with finite element analysis using the PLAXIS program. The stress distributions in the reinforcements and soil nails are investigated for the embankment system with various geometric conditions and loading conditions. Findings of this study are helpful to the optimum design of a reinforced embankment strengthened by soil nails.
