碩士 === 國立花蓮師範學院 === 多元文化研究所 === 93 === In this thesis, I intend to understand myself through narrative inquiry. Coming from a working-class family, to obey rules established in my own family and the society is what I firmly belief as the truth to survive and succeed. However, I always felt petty and lack of self-worthiness in the past. Through the lenses of narrative inquiry, I look back at my family experience and reexamine my three-year social workers’ job experience. As I fighting back my low-self-esteem, I realize my helplessness and low self-esteem is socially constructed. And I become to see people who live in poverty do own the power and wisdom to transcend the constrains of social norms. Going through an inquiry for self-emancipation, I am now relieved from the suffering of low self-esteem and helplessness. Now I understand that my life experience of struggling with low self-esteem is the resources for appreciating the strength of the culture of poverty. The journey of self-emancipation through narrative inquiry open the door for me to go back to the work that could help people to fight against the injustice within the institution such as social work and schools.
