Integration of Vernacular Art into Arts and Humanities urriculum in Primary School -A Case Study of Puppet Show Instruction
This research aims to study the integration of puppet show into art and humanist curriculum, particularly on the fifth and sixth graders in primary school. The research has the following four findings:
1.The puppet show instruction is worthy and effective; therefore, it is strongly suggested to be integrated into art and humanist curriculum. Students have learned more about traditional art after the puppet show instruction. In addition, their cognitive and appreciative ability of presenting art have been highly developed.
2.Integration of puppet show instruction into art and humanist curriculum is worthy to be implemented. Puppet show instruction is divided into several artistic elements and nine classroom activities are designed based on these elements. The analysis of the instruction reveals that students are highly interested in these activities.
3.Students have enjoyed the puppet show instruction. The analysis of questionnaires indicate that students are satisfied with the puppet show instruction in term of lesson plan designs, instructional methods, their participation, satisfaction of the projects, team work, and appropriateness of lesson plans.
4.The integration of puppet show instruction into art and humanistic curriculum is claimed to be as a school’s chrematistics and to be implemented from first to sixth graders in elementary schools. Puppet show instruction should be designed for and implemented on different graders. By doing so, elementary school students will learn, appreciate, and enjoy playing puppet show.
