| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 家庭教育研究所 === 93 === The purpose of this study is（a） to explore the needs of parenting education by parents of students with mental retardation in vocational high school；（b）to investigate the needs of the content and the ways of implementation of parenting education by parents of different backgrounds and different family forms. The study involves parents of the students studied in special education class of vocational high school and the vocational department of special education school at Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County and Chiayi City as the objects. The tool employed is as follows: “The questionnaire as to the needs of parenting education by parents of students with mental retardation in vocational high school”. All the data were analyzed in accordance with times of distribution, percentage, t test and single factor variation analysis；besides, a symposium for parents education is held. The main results of the research are listed as follows:
1. The overall need of the parents to know about parenting education is high
2. The content of parenting education the parents want to know about is highly based on “about the cognition and skills to raise children with mental retardation”.
3. The ways of implementation of parenting education the parents want to know about are highly based on “mass communication media- providing general information about parents education”.
4. Parents of students with severe mental retardation need the special education information about “the education organization”；while others need the information about “occupational preparation and employment”.
The outcomes and the limitations hence generated could be referential suggestions for the parents, relevant educational institutes as well as the future studies.
